The South Carolina Chest Tumor Consortium at Providence was established in July of 2004 by Dr. Preston Jones. Based on Dr. Jones’ vision, the Consortium now consists of a group of experienced physicians (pulmonologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists) who have a special interest in the diagnosis and management of lung cancer and chest tumors. The mission of the Consortium is to provide a multidisciplinary plan of care for patients with thoracic tumors via facilitated work-up and comprehensive follow-up care.
The Consortium provides a regular forum for participating physicians to analyze diagnostic and historical medical data for patients requiring intervention for chest tumors. Based on all the options available, Consortium members determine, by consensus, the best recommended course of evaluation and treatments for each patient with specific attention paid to facilitated work-up and close contact with referring physicians.
