Carlos Named Providence All-Heart Player-of-the-Week

Carlos Thomas, a cornerback from College Park, GA, was named All-Heart Player-of-the-Week by Coach Spurrier and the University of South Carolina coaching staff for his performance during the Wofford game on Sept. 16. The All-Heart Player-of-the-Week award is presented to individuals who display leadership, initiative, and “heart” in athletics, academics and life.

Thomas, a 5’10” sophomore made the transition in the spring to the defensive side of the ball full time after spending most of his true freshman campaign working with the offense. Thomas currently leads the team in kickoff returns with an average of 23.7 yards per game. Thomas has also recorded one interception at the Vanderbilt game on Oct. 21.

Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, often referred to as South Carolina’s “Heart Hospital,” is recognized statewide as a referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The hospital developed the All-Heart Player-of-the-Week award to recognize USC athletes for their contributions on and off the field.
