Providence Hospitals Announce Appointment of New Chief Financial Officer

David K. StewartDavid K. Stewart has been named chief financial officer of Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine Providence Hospitals. Stewart will be responsible for the hospitals’ financial operations including general accounting, revenue cycle (admissions and billing), HIMS, managed care, information systems, financial planning and analysis, reimbursement and supply chain (materials management).

Stewart comes to Providence from Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine (CSA) Health System’s Ohio joint venture with University Hospitals of Cleveland, which includes St. Vincent Charity Hospital and St. John West Shore Hospital.

Stewart graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is currently completing his master’s of business administration and master’s of accountancy degrees through the University of Phoenix.

Stewart embraces his opportunity to make an impact at Providence. He says, “As a team member of the CSAHS hospital family in Ohio for more than 17 years, I have long-admired Providence Hospitals, its mission and its people. It is my honor and privilege to now serve with the Providence leadership team in caring for the needs of the Columbia community.”

An Ohio native, Stewart began his position at Providence September 6. His wife Elizabeth and their 15-month-old son, Finley, will join him soon in South Carolina.

Owned by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine (CSA) Health System, Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals is known statewide for its compassionate care. Our non-profit organization is licensed for 304 beds and is comprised of four entities: Providence Hospital, Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, Providence Hospital Northeast and Providence Orthopaedic & NeuroSpine Institute. Providence Hospital, located in downtown Columbia, was founded by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine in 1938. The facility is best known for the expertise in cardiac care it provides through Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, which is recognized statewide as a referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
