
Stoney Woodson, a cornerback from Tampa, Florida, was named All-Heart Player of the Week by Coach Spurrier and the University of South Carolina coaching staff for his performance during the Vanderbilt game on October 21. The All-Heart Player of the Week award is presented to individuals who display leadership, initiative, and “heart” in athletics, academics and life.
Woodson, a 5’11” red shirt sophomore is currently tied for the most interceptions on the team. His role at safety has proved very valuable to the gamecocks so far this season. Woodson has earned a starting role in five games this year. Woodson is one of three backs on the team that has picked up a pair of interceptions, including one at the Kentucky game for an 11 yard return. Woodson has completed 22 tackles in seven games he has played in this year.
Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, often referred to as South Carolina’s “Heart Hospital,” is recognized statewide as a referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The hospital developed the All-Heart Player-of-the-Week award to recognize USC athletes for their contributions on and off the field.
