Providence Hospitals Announces 2007 Christmas Card Art Contest Winner

Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals selected a card designed by third-grader Liam Aiden Toumey of St. Peter’s Catholic School as the winner of its annual Christmas card contest.

Each year, students from Columbia Catholic elementary schools submit drawings of Christmas scenes, with the winner’s artwork being used as Providence Hospitals’ Christmas card. Participating schools receive a donation from Providence, and the winning child and runner-up receive a cash prize. The cards are sent to more than 4,000 people in the community.

This year’s runner-up was third-grader Alyssa Pitman, also a student at St. Peter’s Catholic School. Both children will receive prize money and their framed artwork during a recognition ceremony at Providence’s downtown campus.

Owned by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine (CSA) Health System, Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals is known statewide for its compassionate care. The non-profit organization is licensed for 304 beds and is comprised of four entities: Providence Hospital, Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, Providence Hospital Northeast and Providence Orthopaedic & Neuro Spine Institute. A faith-based health care facility in the Midlands area of South Carolina, Providence employs more than 1,900 caring individuals.

Providence Hospital, located in downtown Columbia, was founded by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine in 1938. The facility is best known for the expertise in cardiac care it provides through Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, which is recognized statewide as a referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
