If you choose The Providence Joint Center, you will become the center of a focused team which includes your surgeon, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, care technicians, case manager, and your family. During your stay, your family member or friend will be instructed in how to “coach” you during your continued recovery after you return home.
Guided and assisted by your coordinator, you and your family will find that you are not bystanders; you are participants and team members with a common goal. The goal is getting your quality of life back as rapidly as possible, and it carries through the weeks leading up to your surgery, during your short stay here, and into the days and months following.
Our nurses have specialized training and experience in orthopaedic care. As members of your care team, they will facilitate your individual rehabilitation goals while providing 24-hour management of medication, pain control, personal care, and overall health monitoring.
Your rehab team will consist of a physical therapist, occupational therapist, as well as you and your coach. Our philosophy is simple – our goals are your goals. Interaction between you, your coach and your therapy team is essential to setting and achieving short and long term objectives to your rehabilitation. We will work hard to structure a program to fit your individual needs. At the same time we promote a feeling of support and camaraderie through group activities with peers in a similar situation to yours.
The therapists and nurses work closely with your surgeon to develop a progressive and rapid recovery program aimed at regaining your independence and improving your quality of life. The rehabilitative process begins when the last stitch is tied in the operating room. Through education, pain relieving modalities, and positioning, you and your supporters will be given the tools necessary to ensure an optimal outcome. Formal physical and occupational therapy will begin by the first morning after surgery and continue until discharge from the hospital. We’ll even help you into your car if you need!
