What is the Red Dress Campaign?

Providence Heart & Vascular Institute developed the Red Dress Campaign to alert women to the dangers of heart disease. The campaign uses the visual of a red dress to help communicate that heart disease is not just a man’s disease—it’s the number one cause of death among women. The American Heart Association estimates that heart disease kills 500,000 women in the U.S. each year, compared to 42,000 killed by breast cancer. Yet many women don’t perceive heart disease as their greatest health threat.

The Red Dress Campaign complements the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute’s nationwide public awareness campaign that uses a red dress as the centerpiece of its program.
