Student Nurse Apprenticeship

The Student Nurse Apprenticeship is a six week paid training course designed to introduce pre-nursing students to bedside patient care. Student Nurse Apprentices learn basic nursing skills through a combination of classroom instruction, case scenarios in a skills lab setting and through interaction with patients while under the direction of an instructor.

Who can apply for Student Nurse Apprenticeship?

Pre-fundamental nursing students that have been officially accepted to a nursing program and will be entering fundamentals either in the fall or the spring following the summer training session.

Requirements for Application

• Submit an online application to Providence Hospitals between January 1 and February 29, 2012.  You must specify Student Nurse Apprenticeship as the position for which you are applying for. Applications submitted prior to January 1, 2012 may not be considered.
• Provide verification of acceptance to a nursing program.
• Submit two letters of reference and a 500 word essay on what you expect to gain from this experience.
• To complete your application, you must submit two letters of reference and verification of acceptance to a nursing program to the Education Department by the end of the business day on February 29, 2012. Send documents to: Providence Hospitals Education Department, ATTN: Tabitha Soderstrom, 2435 Forest Drive, Columbia SC 29204. Only completed applications will be considered. 
• Once applications and references are reviewed, selected applicants will complete a panel interview.
  

Program Dates for the 2012 Student Nurse Apprenticeship

Monday, June 4, 2012 through Thursday, July 12, 2012

*Please note that training days are Monday- Thursday, generally 8 hours a day. You must be able to attend all training sessions the first 4 weeks in order to participate in the program.
