Speech Therapy

What is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy involves the rehabilitation or correction of speech, language, voice, swallowing and/or cognitive disabilities that result in difficulty with communication and/or swallowing.

Who can benefit from Speech Therapy?

A wide range of individuals can benefit from speech therapy services, including adults with:

  • speech and language difficulties resulting from stroke
  • voice disorders
  • with communication or cognitive difficulties resulting from brain injury
  • swallowing problems
  • difficulty communicating and/or swallowing
  • with a degenerative dementia like Alzheimer’s disease
  • with a degenerative neurologic disease like Parkinson’s disease

What will be included in my speech therapy program?

All speech therapy programs will begin with a detailed diagnostic evaluation that is specific to the individual’s communication and/or swallowing difficulties.  Based on the results of the diagnostic evaluation, the Speech Pathologist will design goals and objectives to facilitate improvement in the individual’s communication and/or swallowing function.  Once goals have been written, the Speech Pathologist will design therapeutic activities to improve the individual’s communication and/or swallowing function.

Will my insurance cover my therapy?

Nearly all insurance plans have a benefit for outpatient speech therapy services.  You will need to contact your plan provider to find the specific out of pocket cost, if any.
