Cardiovascular Services  

Providence Heart & Vascular Institute is the premier cardiac facility in South Carolina and one of the most respected in the nation. Equipped with six catheterization labs, four surgical suites and a leading-edge electrophysiology lab, the Heart Institute is consistently among the first to introduce new procedures such as MIDCAB (minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass) and "off-pump" or "beating heart" surgery. Providence also offers a nationally certified cardiac rehabilitation program on an outpatient basis to individuals who have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty or a stent.

Community Education 

Whether someone's interested in learning CPR or preparing for the birth of a child, Providence offers a host of educational classes designed especially with the community in mind.

Critical Care

Providence Heart & Vascular Institute includes a medical coronary intensive care unit, an intermediate medical care unit, a post coronary care unit, an intensive care unit and an intermediate intensive care unit. Providence Hospital maintains a state-of-the-art intensive care unit.

Endoscopy Services

We offer diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Emergency Services

Providence offers 24-hour emergency services to the community, with an experienced emergency room staff specially trained in critical rapid-response care.

General Surgery

We offer a broad range of surgical services, including orthopedic, colon/rectal, urology, otolaryngology (ear/nose/throat), vascular and plastic surgery. We perform thousands of surgeries on an outpatient basis each year.

Helicopter Service 

Providence provides lifesaving care through LifeNet South Carolina, a helicopter service that operates 24 hours a day as an airborne intensive care unit, transporting critically ill patients to Providence and other facilities throughout the Carolinas and Georgia.

Imaging Services

We offer a complete range of imaging services:

Biographics
All EKGs, non-invasive cardiac and vascular studies for inpatient, outpatient and emergency patients are performed in the Biographics Department.

Nuclear Medicine
This area performs diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures such as lung scans, bone density scans and cardiac SPECT scans. The staff also performs abdominal and genitourinary ultrasounds.

Radiology
All inpatient, outpatient and emergency diagnostic X-ray procedures are performed in the Radiology Department.

Mammography
The Mammography Department is accredited by the FDA, and board-certified mammographers perform approximately 3,700 mammograms per year. Providence offers a full range of services for breast health, from diagnostics to surgery, and uses a sophisticated computerized tracking system to closely monitor patients' results and treatment.

CT Scans
CT Scans are provided on-site at both Hospital Locations. 

Laboratory Services

The Laboratory offers full service clinical and anatomical pathology procedures and conducts all standard tests. It is accredited by the College of American Pathology (CAP).

Ophthalmology Care

A recognized leader in eye care, the Providence Day Surgery Center offers complete diagnostic and treatment services, including surgery for cataract and retina problems, a variety of laser eye surgery procedures, corneal transplants and the treatment of glaucoma.

Outpatient Surgery

Providence offers all the benefits and services of surgery without the expense of an overnight admission. Located in the hospital with a convenient entrance off Bernardin Avenue, the Outpatient Services Department provides any pre-operative testing you may need. Providence Chest Tumor Consortium

This unique offer is designed to help patients with lung cancer receive the most comprehensive, timely, individualized treatment plans available. The Chest Tumor Consortium consists of a multidisciplinary group of physicians who meet at Providence on a regular basis to analyze medical information on patients with chest tumors to help determine the best and most efficient treatment plan for these individuals.

Rehabilitative Services

Offering physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, the Physical Rehabilitation Department provides evaluation, therapeutic treatment and educational services to individuals in order to reduce pain and restore function and independence. Using state-of-the-art equipment, Providence therapists employ a wide variety of treatment modalities to return the patient to his or her pre-injury job and lifestyle. Patients are seen by physician or dental referral on an inpatient or outpatient basis.

Respiratory Care

The Respiratory Care Department provides routine and critical care pulmonary procedures throughout the hospital. Also available is an outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program designed for adult patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, bronchitis, emphysema or bronchiectasis. This rehabilitation focuses on education, self-help skills and exercise to improve the patient's functional status and enhance quality of life.

Sleep Disorder Center 

The Sleep Disorder Center at Providence diagnoses and treats patients suffering from sleep apnea syndrome, narcolepsy, parasomnias, REM behavior disorders, nocturnal seizures, restless leg syndrome, periodic limb movements and other sleep disorders. This state-of-the-art laboratory is staffed by highly qualified specialists trained in sleep medicine, respiratory therapy, neurology and pulmonary medicine.

Support Groups and Special Programs 

Providence hosts support groups designed to assist individuals and their families who are coping with sleep apnea and bypass surgery. In addition, we offer mall-walking activities throughout the community and a special Providence Friends program designed for individuals 50 and older.
