Preventing Adverse Events During Surgery

If you are going to be having surgery at Providence Hospitals, we want you to know some of the measures we will take to prevent any adverse events for happening during your surgical procedure.

  • We will use a pre-procedure verification process to make sure that we properly identify you, the surgical procedure you are going to have and the correct surgical site where the surgery is to be performed.
  • We will make sure we have an updated history and physical examination on you prior to performing the procedure.
  • Your surgeon will mark the surgical spot to insure the surgery will be performed on the correct site.
  • Immediately prior to your surgery, members of your surgical team will conduct a “time-out” to review the important identification information again just prior to surgery.
  • We also take precautions to help prevent surgical site infections; these include using a long and short acting skin preparation.

We encourage you to actively participate with us as we perform these safety measures.
