After a pacemaker or ICD device is implanted, the device will be programmed and analyzed so peak function is achieved. A pacemaker programmer is used to check pacemaker. The programmer uses a wand placed directly over the pacemaker or ICD. Results of the pacemaker check are discussed with the physician, who will then determine the pacemaker settings. After programming, an echocardiogram will be done to evaluate heart function, and the pacemaker will be set to the best level to ensure good heart function.
