Red Dress Rally Ladies.
On February 6, 2004, a group of Mended Hearts Chapter 189 members joined over 250 women dressed in red to rally at the State House to support the Red Dress Campaign. Governor Mark Sanford read a proclamation officially dedicating the first Friday of February to the issue of heart disease in women.
Maureen Cates, Mended Hearts volunteer and teacher at Irmo Middle School, addressed the rally. She's a 43 year old who survived a heart attack and surgery.
President and CEO Steve Purvis spoke on behalf of Providence Hospital.
Eight million US women have heart disease, which kills more women annually than any other health problem. The Red Dress Campaign has brought real awareness to the issue of women and heart disease. Thanks to our Mended Hearts 189 ladies - all dressed in red - who attended the rally.
