Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are research studies that test how new medical approaches work in people. They often include treatments that are not generally available to the public. Providence Hospitals is proud to have a long tradition of providing support for such studies, including some of the following:

  • Landmark studies on the use of coronary stents, including a number of new varieties, for heart disease
  • Heart attack medication studies
  • Leading studies for the use of Intravascular Ultrasound in heart catheterizations
  • Many defibrillator, heart resynchronization pacing and pacemaker studies
  • Extensive peripheral trials with stenting in carotids and femorals, iliacs, etc.
  • Cath lab drug studies that have gone on to later receive FDA approval.  One of these drugs is now the standard of care for many hospitals across the country.
  • Numerous eye disease studies
  • Several orthopaedic hip replacement studies
  • Humanitarian Device Exemption studies, providing either life saving or life enhancing therapies to patients otherwise unable to obtain such treatment
  • We have also supported extensive studies related to heart failure and the impact of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators

For more information about clinical trials, ask your physician.
