Advanced Technology

At Providence, we use advanced technology for clinical systems to obtain a better, safer, and more efficient patient experience. Some of the latest technology integrated at Providence is listed below.

Electronic Documentation
Health care organizations across the nation are faced with the challenge of acquiring applications that will support accessing and retrieving real time clinical data. At Providence, an electronic medication record is used that provides a central secure location for electronic health information that is accessible real time and by the health care team including physicians.

Bedside Medication Verification
Bedside Medication Verification (BMV) is an automated medication management system that uses bar coding to improve quality of care and patient safety. BMV has been introduced as an innovative strategy that uses the technology of bar coding to verify the medication administration process at the point of care. With the bar coding system the nurse scans the patient’s wristband, and the drug to be administered, this data is then cross referenced with the pharmacy’s information data base for accuracy and the five rights are cross checked: right patient, right drug, right dose, right route and right time.

Electronic Medication Administration Record
The electronic MAR is another enhancement that works in conjunction with the BMV process. All of the medications are documented and viewable within the Clinical Documentation Systems.

Benefits of BMV:
• Increase patient medication safety
• Has the potential to reduce med errors by 50%
• Automated documentation
• Real-time verification of proper medication administration
• Bedside warnings of potential errors

Pyxis MedStation

It provides innovative communication and workflow optimization tools to enhance nursing and pharmacy's ability to work more efficiently and effectively as individuals and as a collaborative team in their efforts to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

GE Monitoring Systems
At Providence we use state of the art GE patient monitoring systems and wireless devices to distribute and utilize key patient information to improve patient care.

Bidshift
Bidshift is a web-based program that allows employees to go on-line to view and request open shifts on any unit for which they are qualified to work.
