Providence Hospitals Receives Chest Pain Center Accreditation

In 2009, Providence Hospitals received full Cycle II accreditation with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPS).  The Society of Chest Pain Centers’ goal is to reduce mortality from heart attacks by teaching the public to recognize and react to the early symptoms of a heart attack and to reduce the time that it takes to receive treatment.

Providence Hospitals’ accreditation as a chest pain center goes above and beyond the required standards for a Chest Pain Emergency department to include a PCI designation to treat blocked arteries of the heart. "This designation means that within minutes of arriving at our Emergency department with a heart attack, our goal is to get you into a cardiac cath lab to receive an intervention," says Vice President of Cardiovascular Services Stephen Creech.

Providence Hospitals Designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has designated Providence Hospitals as a Blue Distinction Center fBlueCross BlueSheild of South Carolina has designated Providence Hospitals as a Blue Disntinction Center for Cardiac Care.  To date, more than 400 facilities nationwide have received a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care designation.

The need for quality cardiac care is urgent: The American Heart Association estimates that this year alone, 1.2 million Americans will experience a first or recurrent heart attack.
